Everyone has heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but do you know why? Starting your day with a good breakfast can boost metabolism, curb cravings, stabilize blood sugars and aid in weight loss! Making a healthy breakfast should always include lean protein such as eggs or egg whites, low sodium ham, low fat cheese, natural peanut butter, low-fat cottage cheese, non-fat Greek yogurt, low calorie protein shake or turkey bacon. Whichever proteins you choose don’t be afraid to add veggies! Mushrooms, onions, peppers, spinach and tomatoes are delicious in omelets or opt for sliced tomato versus hash browns when dining out to cut carbohydrates and calories from your meal. Avoid high carbohydrate breakfast foods such as oatmeal, cereal, dried fruit, bagels, pancakes as well as waffles and you will certainly notice better blood sugar control in the afternoon.
