It is recommended that those who have diabetes eat low glycemic load carbohydrates, usually from vegetables, as well as eating plant sourced fats and proteins. Healthy meal plans for diabetics include plenty of vegetables, limited or no sugars and red meat, and complex carbohydrates such as quinoa. Foods to avoid while following a diabetic meal plan include simple carbohydrates, such as sugar, pasta, white bread, flour, and desserts.
