Jumping into New Diabetes Technology in 2025!
By: Jessica Hrdlicka MS, RD, LD/N, CDCES
2024 was a great year for diabetes technology! From advances such as the iLet pump, Omnipod integration of an IOS app, Dexcom G7, the new Libre 3 Plus, Medtronic 780g and the newest continuous glucose monitor (CGM) without a prescription Stelo there is a lot of fun gadgets to try in 2025!
Now if you’re not a fan of change, then step aside because diabetes is infused with technology more than ever! Many blood glucose meters now Bluetooth to an app on your phone, CGMs sent blood sugar data to your phone every 5 minutes and many of these devices have even more features to keep you safe!
Now before you think these devices may be difficult to learn, do not worry! Our team of certified diabetes education care specialists can help you learn all of your new devices with ease.
Starting 2025 our team of educators are hosting Freestyle Libre & Dexcom Continuous Glucose Monitoring Device Learning Sessions. In these classes you will learn:
- How to successfully place the device
- How to change your device every 10-15 days
- When to contact tech support for assistance
- How to Calibrate your device
- How to travel safely with your devices
- How to interpret your blood sugar data
- Changing alarms, time and language
- How to add your physician as well as family members to monitor your blood sugar levels remotely

Introducing the iLet Bionic Pancreas Insulin Pump
By: Ines Cobo, RN, CDCES
The iLet is an automated insulin delivery system that reduces the need to make decisions about your diabetes management-because it makes the decisions for you. The iLet learns your basal (a constant drip of insulin) insulin needs, how to correct you to target, and how much insulin you need for your meals. The iLet communicates with the Dexcom G6, Dexcom G7, Libre 3 Plus, and is water resistant 12 feet up to 30 minutes.
The iLet works with 3 different algorithms:
Basal Algorithm:
- Determines basal insulin requirements
- Eliminates need for user to set basal rates
- Adapts continuously to changing insulin needs
- Reduces insulin when needed to help protect against hypoglycemia
- Develops and continuously updates a basal profile (288 basal segments a day)
Corrections Algorithm:
- Eliminates need for user to determine timing or size of correction doses
- Automatically adds insulin beyond basal insulin requirements
- Adapts continuously to ever-changing needs
- Eliminates patient error regarding stacking (IOB)
Meal announcement Algorithm:
- Eliminates need for insulin-to-carb ratios
- No carb counting. The iLet only needs an estimate of the carbs in the meal – Usual for me, More or Less
- Gives meal doses customized to the individual
- Automatically adjusts based on dosing history for similar previous meal announcements
