Hi, I am Dr. Maria E. Gutierrez, the new addition to PBDES. I joined the group just a month ago and so far I am thrilled. Under the great vision and leadership of Drs William Kaye, Barry Horowitz and Gary Pepper- PBDES offers a unique healthcare delivery for patients with diabetes and other endocrine disorders. I am impressed with the quality of our nurses, medical assistants, lab and ultrasound technicians, secretaries and managers. Coming from a smaller practice, I can appreciate the advantages of belonging to a larger group with talented endocrinologists and now nurse practitioners as well.. The review of articles and discussion of medical cases among colleagues adds to our knowledge which translates into better care for our patients. In addition to providing services to our patients such as diabetes education and nutritional seminars, PBDES also provides education to the doctors in our community as to expand their medical knowledge in this field. We are all partners in the care of our patients in Palm County and beyond.
It is indeed a new era in the treatment for Diabetes. We now have technologies and new classes of drugs that have truly enhanced the quality of life of those patients who live with this condition. From different types of continous glucose monitors which can tell what the blood sugars are without pricking the fingers ( ouch!) to new therapies for type 2 Diabetes that not only help control blood sugars but facilitate weight loss and help protect the heart and blood vessels. Finally we now have and are experienced in the use of inhaled insulin which not only adds convenience to those patients who need insulin but it is the only short acting insulin that mimics the human insulin - so that now patients can attain control of their blood sugars like never before.
Yes, I am thrilled to be part of this wonderful team- so come and join us and join me every month as I review the different classes of drugs that we have available for the treatment of diabetes.
